5 ways to wear the Chambray shirt
A key wardrobe piece that is making a major comeback this Spring/Summer is the chambray shirt.
To start, we thought we'd clear up that all important question: how is chambray different to denim?
While they may look and feel the same, there are a couple of differences between the two.
For starters, denim is a twill fabric, which is a slightly heavier weight material. Chambray on the other hand is a plain weave fabric whose lighter weight makes it great for summer shirting.
The other key differences can be noticed by looking at the underside of the fabric:
With Denim you will notice a lighter colour on the underside, whereas Chambray will appear very similar to its facing. Also the method used to weave denim is what gives the diagonal pattern you see, whereas Chambray's plain weave creates a 'square' pattern.
Now that we've cleared that up for you, here we share our 5 ways to rock the Chambray shirt:
In Spring and Summer the chambray shirt will look lovely with a white lace skirt, shorts or white jeans. For the cooler months, wear it with your favourite pair of black jeans or leather pants. Your options with just these two shades are unlimited.
Have some fun! If you're feeling daring wear it with a statement leopard print jacket and some black jeans or team it with a cute printed skirt which would look great for the office.
Your chambray shirt is not just for daytime! This blue baby will party at night with you when teamed up with a gorgeous sequin skirt for some understated glamour. Keep the accessories simple so your skirt (and legs!) steal the show.
Once upon a time, head to toe denim and chambray used to be frowned upon (do we all still remember that outfit Justin Timberlake wore in the 90s?). Those days are a thing of the past. Now a go-to look for models and fashionistas alike, the key is to experiment with different shades.
Let your pants do all the talking - throw on a bright pair of denim jeans and some nude flats or heels. Or try your chambray shirt layered under a colourful knit or jacket.
And don't worry if you don't own a chambray shirt, a denim shirt will work just as nicely for these looks.
How will you be wearing the chambray/denim shirt this season?
